During this pandemic, we can see the increment number of online shopping through e-commerce and social media. Unfortunately, it also creates a criminal act with a new mode for a crime syndicate. However, Indonesian Cyberlaw does not explicitly regulate online fraud matters. In market practice, we can refer to Article 28, Paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Cyberlaw which governs the prohibition of spreading false and misleading news that results in consumer losses in electronic transactions.

Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) shares that the number of fraud cases from e-commerce and online shopping thru social media in 2021 is reported to be more than 120,000 cases. The main problems of consumer complaints are the goods ordered are not received, the process of returning goods, and complaints of goods do not match with the order.

  1. Choose trusted e-commerce that has been verified
  2. Seller Verification (Rating and active contact person with fast response)

If you are a fraudulence victim in e-commerce, in addition to reporting this case to a related e commerce complaint center, you can also do the following:

  1. Report to the Police, especially the unit E-commerce task force.
