Electric car license plates, or Motor Vehicle Registration Signs (TNKB), have distinct characteristics. The main difference from conventional vehicles lies in the color of the plate used.
Electric car license plates feature an additional blue color accent, placed on the bottom frame of the plate, right below the expiration date. The base color of the plate still follows the type of vehicle.
Types of License Plate Colors for Electric Cars in Indonesia
These plate type regulations refer to Perpol (Police Regulation) Number 7 of 2021 concerning Motor Vehicle Registration and Identification, specifically Article 45 paragraph 2. There are five color categories used for electric vehicle license plates.
- White Plate with Blue Stripe. This plate has a white base color with a blue line. It is used for vehicles with Temporary Vehicle Registration Letters (STCK), typically for test drives or trial purposes.
- Black Plate with Blue Stripe. A black base plate with a blue line is used for privately owned electric vehicles.
- Yellow Plate with Blue Stripe. Similar to the yellow plates used for conventional public transport vehicles, this version with a blue stripe is for public electric vehicles.
- Red Plate with Blue Stripe. This plate, with a red background and blue stripe, is used for government-owned electric vehicles, indicating that the vehicle is used for official government purposes.
- Green Plate with Blue Stripe. The green license plate with a blue line is used for electric vehicles operating in special zones, such as free trade or bonded zones.
