Did You Know? Use of Warning Sign during Emergency Stop

If you stopped your car on the road due to an emergency, please do it properly. There are procedures that we must obey to avoid accidents. The process uses warning signs, such as installing a safety triangle, turning on the hazard light, etc. to signal other drivers behind.

This procedure is regulated in government regulations, Law No. 22 Year 2009, concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, Paragraph 7 Article 121 Paragraph 1, and Chapter XX, Criminal Provisions Article 298, as mentioned below:

Article 121 Paragraph 1 states:
Every Motor Vehicle Driver must set a safety triangle, hazard light, or another warning sign during an emergency stop or park on the road.

Article 298 states:
Every Motor Vehicle Driver who does not set a safety triangle, hazard light, or another warning sign during an emergency stop or park on the road as referred to in Article 121 Paragraph (1) will be sentenced to imprisonment for maximum two months or fined with amount IDR500,000.00 (five hundred thousand rupiahs) on maximum.

Most drivers in Indonesia misunderstood the use of warning signs. One of them is a misunderstanding in using hazard lights when heavy raining, entering a tunnel, committing a convoy, or driving straight at the intersection.

Hazard light should be used for breaking down vehicle, accident, or emergency tire replacement. emergency, the driver does not turn on only hazard lights but also sets a safety triangle to prevent the accident, so others vehicle could slow the speed down and pay more attention.

Thus, you must bring a safety triangle in your car and other equipment, such as a jack or spare tire, that may be needed at any time if the vehicle has problems on the way.
