Collaboration to Protect Marine Ecosystems:<br>MSIG Indonesia and Sinarmas MSIG Life Conduct Coral Reef Transplantation in Kepulauan Seribu

Jakarta, October 25, 2023 - PT Asuransi MSIG Indonesia (MSIG Indonesia) and PT Asuransi Jiwa Sinarmas MSIG Tbk (Sinarmas MSIG Life) show their commitment to supporting a better quality of life through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that focus on the preservation of marine biodiversity and the lives of surrounding communities. In collaboration with Smiling Coral Indonesia, the two companies transplanted hundreds of coral reefs and planted mangroves on Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu.

Human activities and climate change have caused significant damage to marine ecosystems in the Kepulauan Seribu. Based on research conducted on 56 islands in the Kepulauan Seribu Marine National Park, 64% of the islands are classified as high-vulnerability islands where the sustainability of the marine ecosystem is highly threatened, thus impacting not only the environment but also the lives of the surrounding communities. The economy of local communities is declining, and they are vulnerable to homelessness due to abrasion and frequent tidal flooding. Systematic efforts are needed to reduce these risks, such as coral reef transplantation and mangrove planting.

Lukman Auliadi, Head of Customer and Marketing Sinarmas MSIG Life, explained, "We always alongside the life journey of Indonesian people. More than providing financial protection, we also support everyone to live a better quality of life, including the people in Kepulauan Seribu. This activity is one of the concrete actions to carry out CSR initiatives in implementing ESG (Environment, Social & Governance). We also echo this effort through the #LangkahUntukLaut campaign, which is run through the previously launched MyFit+ application. Every step recorded in the challenge will be converted into coral reef restoration efforts to maintain marine biodiversity and improve the quality of life of the surrounding community."

MSIG Indonesia also believes that preserving the marine ecosystem is fundamental and a must to be able to support the survival of coastal communities. "We realize that damage to the marine environment can affect marine life and the economy of the community. In line with the mission of MS&AD Insurance Group, our commitment to this transplantation and planting program is to ensure supporting a sustainable future for the earth," said Susana Alamsyah, Head of Administration Dept. MSIG Indonesia.

Together with Smiling Coral Indonesia - a non-governmental organization engaged in coastal and marine conservation, MSIG Indonesia and Sinarmas MSIG Life strive to maintain the sustainability of the rehabilitation of coral reef and mangrove ecosystems that have been carried out. In addition, both Companies are also committed to trying to realize the addition of conservation sites in various other areas that have high urgency to be addressed.

Hermansyah, Chairman of Smiling Coral Indonesia said, "Kepulauan Seribu is one of the marine areas in Indonesia that has suffered severe damage. Even though the surrounding community fulfills their daily needs as fishermen and tourism service providers who depend on marine resources. Coral reef transplantation and mangrove planting can make the marine ecosystem better maintained, so that it can increase the resource capacity of coastal communities and develop ecotourism. Hopefully, in the future more and more similar ecosystem rehabilitation programs will be carried out, so that the sustainability of marine resources is maintained."

Regarding the MyFit+ application, this is a health application launched by Sinarmas MSIG Life previously. With the 1 Billion Steps challenge within the app, users can donate steps when walking or running while also contributing to donations through the conversion of the number of steps.

"This initiative is our first step to running the #LangkahUntukLaut campaign. Together with MyFit+, we continue to realize the Company's commitment as a 'Trusted Partner' to live a healthier, more prosperous, and more sustainable life," Lukman concluded.
