Biodiversity Fun Class 2024

Biodiversity Fun Class 2024

In June 2024, PT Asuransi MSIG Indonesia (MSIG Indonesia) together with PT MSIG Life Insurance Indonesia Tbk (MSIG Life) launched another annual sustainability campaign with the theme "Biodiversity in the Face of Climate Change." This activity involves a Biodiversity Fun Class (BDFC) held in three locations: public elementary schools (SDN) in Tangerang on June 13, South Jakarta on June 19, and Bogor on June 20, 2024, with 5th grade students participating (read also the 2023 Biodiversity Fun Class activities at the following link: https://www.msig.co.id/csr-initiatives/kelas-kreatif-keanekaragaman-hayati-2023).

MSIG Indonesia and MSIG Life are committed to playing an active role in efforts to curb the rate of climate change by preserving and protecting biodiversity. This initiative not only aims for the future of the earth but also for future generations. According to WWF's 2022 report, wildlife populations have declined by an average of 69% since 1970, with the largest decline in freshwater species at 83%. Major threats to biodiversity include habitat loss, overexploitation, and climate change. A recent article from the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity (ACB), published on February 1, 2024, also shows a significant decline in wildlife populations in Southeast Asia.

MSIG Indonesia Director, Soichiro Tsuchida, stated, "Sustainability is our responsibility too. Through collaboration with MSIG Life and support from organizations such as GNOTA and Save the Children, we strive to make a real impact on environmental conservation. Biodiversity Fun Class not only educates children about the importance of biodiversity but also inspires them to become future protectors of the earth." MSIG Life Director, Ken Terada, added, "The collaboration between MSIG Life and MSIG Indonesia is a real investment for the future of Indonesia. A sustainable environment is the foundation for improving the quality and resilience of life for Indonesian families, with the younger generation acting as agents of change."

A total of 24 volunteers who are employees of MSIG Indonesia and MSIG Life accompanied the students during the activities at the school. Before visiting the school, the volunteers were briefed about biodiversity by Amin Suryani, Climate Change Adaptation Advisor from Save the Children. BDFC 2024 activities were held by watching a video introduction to climate change issues, interactive activities, storytelling about types of waste and sorting waste, as well as simple science experiments regarding Greenhouse Gas Effect experiments and Melting Polar Ice experiments.

We recognize that many schools in rural areas may not have access to the same resources and opportunities as schools in urban areas. By holding this class in these schools, children who previously did not have the opportunity to learn about the impacts of climate change as well as biodiversity conservation can be reached. This effort is in line with our mission to contribute to the development of society and safeguard the future of the earth, providing security and peace of mind through global insurance and financial services. Preserving the earth and a good future for the next generation is a shared responsibility.
